CALL TO WORSHIP: From the back
Let us come before God with thanksgiving.
We gather – a community of God’s people – to worship and to remember all that God has given us.
Here we commit to share with others the talents God gifts us with:
For we are called to be bearers of God’s blessing and love
for all people.

HYMN: Sing Praise and Thanksgiving (WOV 25)
Sing praise and thanksgiving, let all creatures living
now worship their maker with gladness and song;
all glory and honour we come to him bringing:
O praise to the Almighty,
sing praise to our God!

Our lives of his making he brings to their waking;
in darkness he held us in his gracious care,
now into the light we are called from our sleeping:
O praise to the Almighty,
sing praise to our God!

Lord, frame our desiring to do your requiring,
that unto your glory be all that we do;
and where we have faltered, give strength and give healing:
O praise to the Almighty,
sing praise to our God! ? C.A. Gibson & M. Barclay (WOV)

REFLECTION

HYMN: Brother , Sister, Let Me Serve You (Anneke’s choice)
Brother, sister, let me serve you,
let me be as Christ to you,
pray that I may have the grace
to let you be my servant too.

We are pilgrims on a journey,
we are travellers on the road,
we are here to help each other
walk the mile and bear the load.

I will hold the Christ-light for you
in the night-time of your fear,
I will hold my hand out to you,
speak the peace you long to hear.

I will weep when you are weeping,
when you laugh, I’ll laugh with you,
I will share your joy and sorrow
till we’ve seen this journey through. © Scripture in Song

THE ORDINATION OF NEW ELDERS
• Presentation of David Beaumont, Irene Gray and Anneke Howie by the Session Clerk.

• Introduction
There are different gifts,
but it is the same Spirit who gives them.
There are different ways of serving God,
but it is the same Lord who is served.
God works through different people in different ways,
but it is the same God whose purpose is at work in us all.
We are all given gifts by the Spirit to use for the common good.
We have the joy of using our gifts as members
of Christ’s Church, which is his body continuing his ministry
in the world today…

AN AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
We are not alone, we live in God’s world.
We believe in God: who has created and is creating,
who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh,
to reconcile and make new,
who works in us and others by the Spirit.
We trust in God.
We are called to be the Church:
to celebrate God’s presence, to live with respect in Creation,
to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil,
to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope.
In life, in death, in life beyond death,
God is with us. We are not alone.
Thanks be to God. (United Church of Canada, 1968)

THE OFFERING & THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

INVITATION TO COMMUNION & THE PEACE

COMMUNION HYMN: Lord Jesus Christ (Irene’s choice)
Lord Jesus Christ,
you have come to us,
you are one with us, Mary’s son;
cleansing our souls from all their sin,
pouring your love and goodness in,
Jesus, our love for you we sing,
living Lord.
Lord Jesus Christ,
now and every day
teach us how to pray, Son of God.
You have commanded us to do
this, in remembrance, Lord, of you:
into our lives your power breaks through
living Lord.

Lord Jesus Christ,
you have come to us,
born as one of us, Mary’s son;
led out to die on Calvary,
risen from death to set us free,
living Lord Jesus, help us see
you are Lord.

Lord Jesus Christ,
I would come to you,
live my life for you, Son of God.
All your commands I know are true,
your many gifts will make me new,
into my life your power breaks through,
living Lord. © Josef Weinberger Ltd, London (WOV)

A PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
May God be with us. God is here among us.
Let us open our hearts to God.
We open them to God and to one another.
Let us give thanks to God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.
God, we come to this table … prejudice and selfishness;
We come to this table, gifted, thankful.
We have come to offer back:
the gifts and skills, you God have given each of us.
We have come to celebrate the resources of this congregation,
the opportunities for new life and service.
We come to this table, hope-filled … that takes away our burdens;
We have come to this table, searching.
We have come to drink from your cup of blessing,
that breaks open the promise;
that unseals the covenant;
that offers its very self.
And so we come to this table with thanksgiving;
free to move out into the world; free to go where you call; free to eat the food of heaven and to share your love in Christ’s name…

COMMUNION

PRAYER FOLLOWING COMMUNION

HYMN: Make me a Channel of Your Peace (David’s choice)
Make me a channel of your peace:
where there is hatred let me bring your love,
where there is injury, your pardon, Lord,
and where there’s doubt, true faith in you:
O Master, grant that I may never seek
so much to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved, as to love with all my soul!

Make me a channel of your peace:
where there’s despair in life let me bring hope,
where there is darkness, only light,
and where there’s sadness, ever joy:
O Master, grant that I may never seek…

Make me a channel of your peace:
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
in giving of ourselves that we receive,
and in dying that we’re born to eternal life.
