You are the salt of the earth…
After Worship…we will watch part two of “Te Rongopai”. Last week we learned about the setting up of the first Mission Station at Oihi in the Bay of Islands in 1814. Three missionary families, the Kendalls, the Halls, and the Kings, (and later the Hansens), lived under the watchful eye of local Maori. They were tough years and there was little in the way of obvious result. In today’s session (about 20 mins) we learn of a new Mission Station being set up at Paihia under the leadership of Henry Williams. He put more emphasis on learning the Maori language and with the development of a written alphabet for Maori and the arrival of a printing press the scriptures were translated. Maori themselves spread the gospel with an amazing effect. By 1850 over 60% of Maori had adopted Christianity.
Lenten Conversations…
During Lent there is an opportunity to gather with others to grow in our connection with God and one another. We will gather every second week for 8 weeks (4 sessions of approx. 90 mins) for tea/coffee and a time to listen and converse with a focus theme. Focus themes are God, Compassion, Spiritual Practices, the Cross. High levels of Bible knowledge are not expected, and all sorts will be accepted and respected! If you want to get to know others at church and God better, log in to one of the groups (Monday evenings, Tuesday mornings, Wednesday afternoons) by signing the sheet on the back table or by sending Dugald a message (see contact details above)
